Today was gorgeous, and I can't believe how nice it is to sit here, watching a movie, doing some work, with the heat off and the windows open. It is absolutely incredible to be warm without heaters and half a dozen layers of shirts on! The boys are enjoying open windows, too, and I got a lot of knitting done today, so I'm pleased with the day overall. So for tonight, this is extremely short, and I'm off to find y'all some books. It's busy time!

Spring Cleaning
Is finally over. The house is completely cleaned for the start of the warm weather, and that means that I can get outside more often, especially with the weather getting better and better. Yes, I finally got all the stuff done around here - sweeping, dusting, picking up the odd trash that managed to find its way into odd corners, and the bed got stripped and changed for warm weather. This means only one thing - my book posting will be later in the evening, because I will be outside doing stuff in the fresh air and sunshine after work and before supper. Oh it is so lovely to be able to get outside regularly again in the warmth and sunlight. How about all of you other Northern Hemisphere dwellers? Are YOU enjoying this warmer weather? I know all our friends south of the Equator are starting to head into their fall, with all it's own loveliness, but I'm just waiting for the first buds to form on the trees. There's already a bit of grass poking up here and there, and right now, the windows are open and Bouncer is sitting in the living room near me staring out the front window, enjoying reading the kitty newspaper. Now, time for some books, because I really want to get busy relaxing and enjoying that pint of Cherry Garcia ice cream I picked up on the way home tonight.

Fun times!
Today couldn't have been more perfect when I got home from work. Other than Bouncer screaming for another walk outside (Smudge refuses to go outdoors at all, being a former feral, and Bouncer refuses to go out unless he has his harness and leash on to walk Quentin like a dog, haha), which I won't do because I know he's already had more than an hour outside with Quentin earlier today, I'm fixing dinner (homemade chicken alfredo from my freezer stores), I have chores to do, and I'm pooped. I got home from work, changed into "farm jeans" and headed outside with what Quentin calls "the midget cricket."
It's actually a Black and Decker 8" battery-operated chainsaw, which I can easily handle. His 14" vibrates too much and sets of my tenonitis and developing carpal tunnel issues, so I avoid the gas saws at all costs. However, "the midget cricket" is a lot lighter and easier to handle, and doesn't vibrate, so I'm in charge of all the small stuff. Anything smaller than 3-4", so I have plenty of blade to work around and through the tree or brush, is up to me. If he brings down a big tree, most of the trimming up is on me. It saves gas and saves quite a bit of time for him to work on the bigger stuff that will eventually have to be split after it's seasoned a while. The stuff I cut just needs to season, and can be used as-is.
This is great for building the woodpile up quickly and getting it together for when we eventually can get a woodstove in here. HOPEFULLY this summer, but I said that last year, and it was a craptastic summer all the way around and didn't happen. Of course, with only one income, nothing much happened anyhow that needed doing. I surely do not ever want to have to repeat such a horrible year again. Once was more than enough.
Anyhow, that little battery chainsaw is a blessing for the small stuff. Folks may laugh at me for it, and Quentin sure did when I first got it, but he's seen how well it works, how quickly, and how much I can get done before the battery dies. This little thing is really tough. It can cut through oak like it's nothing as long as, like any other chainsaw, you keep the chain sharpened. If you let the chain get dull, it drains the battery faster and of course, it doesn't cut nearly as well.
And so my day has pretty well ended, and I'm pooped. I am going to put on some background noise with the boob tube, pull my knitting over here for later, and get some books pulled together to share with y'all. Which reminds me, someone asked yesterday about reviews of the books I put up, mentioning something to the effect that if they turn out to be duds, they're not really all that great. I do agree with that sentiment, and the books I put in the listings are chosen carefully. Some do not have reviews on Amazon at the point I put them on the list - they're kind of a Catch-22, because you don't know at that point if they're going to be worth it or not. For those, the blurb has to sound good, and I do look at the sneak peak Amazon offers. If the sneak peek doesn't catch my eye, I skip the book. If it's been reviewed already, it becomes a different story. It not only has to catch my eye, it has to have a minimum of three stars when I post it.
I feel that 1-2 stars means there are serious problems in the book. Whether it's poor grammar, poor preparation of the subject matter, what have you, if it can't make at LEAST an average grade, I won't bother with it. So if it's been reviewed when I post it, it will be a minimum three stars at that point and will look good on preview. I also hope that with three to five stars, that it will provide at least some good information, have an author who is reasonably competent and presenting the topic, and the book will be in good enough English (sentence structure, grammar, spelling, general composition) that most people will be able to understand the book. Hopefully, there will also be a few nuggets of useful information in the book. Does that help?
Finally, as to all of you who gave so much advice on helping with Quentin's awful toothache last night. Thank you all so very, very much. Between a bit of that whiskey to deaden the pain (or at least deaden him to feeling it), and making him do a warm salt water wash before he came to bed, it cleared it up for the time being. We'll be looking at Wally World and or a couple of local health food stores for the other stuff this weekend. He's feeling much better today as of when I ran into him at shift change at work, and looks tons better. Course, he would have gotten to sleep without yet another shot of whiskey (more so he'd shush so I could go sleep than to deaden the ouch) if he had listened to me and gotten his V8 juice he likes so much and drunk it room temperature instead of cold out of the fridge. The cold set him right off to moaning and aching all over again, so it became round 2 of whiskey and salt water wash just so I'd get some sleep! He doesn't like the salt wash, and he surely hates Anbesol and clove oil and the rest of it, because to him it all tastes rather nasty, but I told him it's that or he suffers next time he gets a bad toothache and I take away his Mountain Dew on a permanent basis. He said he'll deal with the nasty medicine, lol. Separating him from his favorite (and only) liquid refreshment is apparently "Dew abuse."
So it's now time for books, and I'm glad that things are doing well here. Hope everyone else is doing fine, it's good to see so many folks are enjoying the bookfests. Hugs all!!

Rough day
It has been a crazy day. Work was good, and I had plans to get a lot done when I got home, but as usual around "spring forward" time, I have to force my internal clock to reset by shorting myself a bit on sleep for a few days until I'm so exhausted after three or four days that I'm falling asleep over dinner, so I can go to bed an hour or so earlier than usual. This helps me to get to sleep at a "reasonable" hour, so I can sleep well and wake up on time. Does anybody else have to do this? Or am I just a bit of a goof with this?
On top of that, Quentin's teeth were hurting him so bad tonight that we had to make a whiskey run after I got home. I don't generally approve of alcohol in the house, but Jim Beam Devil's Cut is a lot cheaper than a doctor bill and a lot more effective when it's just a rough toothach. Once he gets a chance to get a dentist to look at things and prep him for dentures, it will be better. But that costs a boatload of money we haven't got right now. So it's treat and wait. So a few swigs of that and he is as potted as a plant. I told him a rather lame joke a bit ago and he thought it was funny as all heck, so he's just plain blotto. Better he miss work and get gassed, than to try to go to work and hope he can stand the pain and do his job.
And what am I doing homesteading wise? I'm still working on the online income stuff. It's picking up a bit at a time, which is great! I'm working like mad on some knitting projects and on writing up some of those old patterns of mine so I can get busy selling them, too. I've got a few books in the works, but as they are non-ficition, it doesn't matter if they get out in a reasonable amount of time or not. I am in the middle of spring cleaning and have a lot to get done outdoors. Chime in and tell us all what you are doing!
So anyhow, I'm pooped, and it's time for books, and then I'm headed to an early bedtime. Night all!

BEAUTIFUL WEATHER!
I don't know how much sunshine all of you are having, but here, it is nice to sit and halfway watch TV while I do some things on the computer, and do it with windows open, the heater off, shoes and socks off and all my extra layers of shirts off, too. I'm thoroughly enjoying this so much. It's in the mid-60sF right now, and I am sooo enjoying it. I still have to get dishes done and do some dusting and sweeping, but it's not too bad considering how much warm weather I've got to do it in! Whee! Okay, it would be slightly better if Bouncer would quit sitting at the window howling to go out, lol. He really wants a walk, but it's pitch black out. There is no way I'm taking him out for a walk, lol. So it's on to books for today, hope you guys enjoy them! By the way? There's a LOT of them.

Long day
But only because of the onset of Daylight Savings Time here in the US. I'm all discombobulated, and tired and will likely go to bed early tonight because I'm too tired to deal with anything major tonight. Quentin found out today that his van needs a tune up now, but at least that is cheap compared to the radiator repair, and he can wait on it till this weekend. I am going to do the books as quickly as possible, because I'm so wiped out I can barely keep my eyes open.

Errands on a Sunday
Not much of a fun day, we had to do all our normal Saturday stuff today because of working yesterday. But everything got done, just have to finish up putting laundry away so I can relax for a while before bed. I hate DST, which set in this morning, as it always throws me off for a while until I adjust. The kitties don't adjust nearly as well ... they know what time breakfast is supposed to be and if it is late, I hear about it! Heck, I even got the trash pileup in the front (storage) bedroom outside and burnt off in the burn barrel so now that mess is taken care of. This last month has been a problem between cold and ice/snow to get the trash done and out, because if the weather wasn't being uncooperative, then the wind was so there was a burn ban on.
But it's time for books, which I know you guys are all waiting for!
