This was NOT a Happy St. Patrick's Day, lol. Seems like there's been a small string of them lately. Usually, I'm pretty upbeat, but the last several days really have me wondering how the bills will get paid and how we're going to get through this with sanity intact. On the whole, the day wasn't totally bad, and considering it's essentially over, that's some good of it. I did make the decision to try for a shift transfer to second - it's 40c an hour more, plus some overtime, so more money coming in. Now as long as Quentin lets me get my full sleep - unlike him, I cannot function well on four hours a night.
The van is in slightly worse shape than we thought. Mind, when he did the radiator, I told Quentin to change BOTH hoses and the thermostat, too, because I have had this happen before, and as friend Candy also said, when you change out something that big and important, it's bound to increase the pressure on the older parts you DON'T replace. Which is essentially what happened to the old thermostat with the new radiator. Bad part is, Quentin tried to get the thermostat out today and discovered that the bolts are so corroded that they both snapped right off of the thermostat housing. This necessitates a call to our friendly shadetree mechanic, who will have to get the flatbed out there to drag it "home" to the shop, so the busted off bolts can be drilled out and then have a tap and die set used on them to haul those suckers out. So we have an electric bill due next week, rent after that, the internet bill due about the same time as the electric bill, all the general weekly sundries of gas, groceries and the like ... and now a repair bill on top of it all to the tune of around $120. IF we're lucky.
So it's been a bit rough again, but with any luck, things will start to look up. They sure can't keep on like this. Friend Tina reminds me that homesteading is full of days like the last few, that there's just as much disappointment and strife as there is just plain happiness. It's just keep on keeping on and you will get there eventually. My upbeat attitude will come back, it is just going to take a few days. But I know you guys are anxious for the books, so here they come! Then I get to do some more knitting to relax and some writing to relax and some finally slogging through the last of my seed catalogs to relax time, lol.
