BUSY Saturday

As usual, it's been incredibly busy. I'm pooped!!!! We slept in a bit late, though work didn't go for a full shift again (we got 37 hours if we're lucky), but we had some things to do when we got home last night, like pull together for today. Had to get the laundry ready to go, barring nightwear, and then there was making up the grocery list so we don't forget stuff and don't get things we really don't need. (Like the month we didn't make a list at all and went by memory, and ended up with four jars of mayo in the pantry because we couldn't remember if we'd gotten any the week before or not.)

So when we got rolling today, we had a lot to do and hustled. There was lunch at the Chinese buffet we like so much, and while Quentin's not in the best shape emotionally because of his Gramma, and folks there noticed, it went great to get him out to eat till he was stuffed. Our waitress is a sweetie, and she is so good she remembers our drinks every time. (He always gets Mountain Dew, and I get tea - hot or iced - depending on the weather. We are just a wee bit predictable methinks.) She noticed he wasn't too happy and asked what was wrong. When told it was his grandmother, and why, she was extremely sympathetic. I wish this would hurry up and get over with. It's dragging him down so much and it's hard to see him like this, falling apart at the drop of a hat.

Once we'd filled ourselves to the brim, especially on this honey glazed chicken on a skewer, we dodged over to Home Depot for a board he needed for a project, then to O'Reilley's to return a few pieces and parts he had leftover from a different project and exchange them for things he needs for the current one. Then up to Wally World for the week's staples purchases, and I looked at some needlework kits but didn't get any. I was good about that this week. I did, however, find a small pattern book of baby blankets with a couple patterns I liked that I can adapt to a bigger afghan. The first one especially. I hate putting squares together, and this one has a LOT - 80-some in the baby blanket, which is only about 3 feet by 4 feet. I'll need more than that for a big blanket for the bed, but the blocks go quickly, and I can assemble as I go so I don't have to whipstitch or slip stitch the things together later, which I find incredibly boring anyways. Then it was off to get laundry done.

That was fun, because a storm rolled in as we were headed into Green Forest to our favorite cheapo laundromat (plus it's next to a dollar store if we want snacks), and he went a few blocks away in the pouring, driving rain (we were only doing 30mph in a 55mph zone for a bit on the way into town, it was that bad) to pick up our buddy JJ. The two of them are currently at a local indie wrestling show in Harrison, which is the last one of this season, when the company will pick up with next season's shows in November. This is good for hubby, as it gets him out of the house and involved in something besides moping for a few hours.

Me, I ended up putting everything away and then taking a nap, because with all the rain, I had to get the modem to reset again, lol. I like satellite internet most of the time, and Hughes Net is pretty good about keeping the system operational, even in the worst of weather. But really hard rain like we were having, you might as well just resign yourself to no internet for a bit. It's ok, I needed the rest anyhow. Being an introvert, and having to be "up" around hubby so much lately to keep him stable has really drained my batteries, and I needed the recharge. I feel a lot better now, and able to handle him for a couple more days without collapsing. Whew.

As for his grandma, it's not good. Family is fighting and she's not even dead yet. This is worse than with his Dad, where they at least waited till he was buried before coming to blows with one another. One family member drove into town to see Grandma, saw a truck belonging to another family member he can't stand at the house, and got all beliigerent, declaring he was leaving because of Family Member He Hates. Turns out, it was FMHH's daughter-in-law with the truck, as she had borrowed it to come sit with Grandma for a bit. So Family Member #3 comes out of the house, all upset, and they get into it. #3 ends up decking #1 and sending him flying. Commotion ensues. Threats are made to call the cops, etc. You can see this is NOT going well. Yet another reason to keep Quentin here until it's time for the funeral. I can just see him getting upset over something someone says and ending up in jail. That's all I need!

Grandma's doctors are morons, well, the new ones, at least. Everybody knows she's on her deathbed, and these idiots are saying, "Well, her main heart artery is mostly blocked. How about we do open heart surgery to fix it?" EXCUSE ME??? Open heart surgery on a 95-year-old woman who is on her deathbed, and so far gone that the anesthesia would kill her? She wouldn't make it onto the operating table! Jesu Christo, but that is just plain madness to even suggest such a thing! Add in that she's far enough gone that she's hallucinating (so says those "wonderful" doctors that want to do the surgery) that she is having conversations with her husband (dead about 50 years) and others (also dead upwards of 20 to 30 years), and saying she wants to go home ... she's ready to leave this vale of tears. Her body just hasn't caught up with her mind yet. Anywho, time to find books and relax, now that my interwebs have decided to behave because the weather's cleared up! Hugs, all!
